Veterinary Hospital Assistant/Technician

Hume Park Animal Hospital is a privately owned, progressive care animal hospital, located in New Wesminster, BC. Our hospital prides itself on serving our community with high standards and efficient care. We are open Tue-Sat 9am-7pm, and only treat dogs and cats. This position is typically part/full time and may include Saturday shifts. There is no night or evening shifts.

It serves as a training tool and well as reference tool. There is tools for internal communication, order tracking, inputs, logs and so on. We strive to constantly improve, and encourage all staff to provide their inputs for improvements/corrections. We do not like ambguity, so everything has well defined protocols. We use a cloud based veterinary practice management software and pride ourselves in having an efficient and smooth workflow.

Veterinary Office Assistant job description, including but not limited to:

  • Greeting and checking in clients and patients, and communicating in a warm and professional manner.
  • Accurate payment processing, document signing, saving.
  • Taking patient/client notes, messages and maintaining up-to-date hard-copy and electronic files.
  • Prioritizing tasks and proactively managing priorities.
  • Maintaining hospital and office cleanliness to our standards at all times.
  • Booking appropriate time allowance for different patient needs. Making client calls, reminder calls and giving clients instructions on surgery and dental procedures.
  • Assist the doctor and technicians in clinical procedures and other assigned tasks
  • Handling and restraint of pets for different procedures
  • Client call backs to relay information, making queries, updating records

Veterinary Technician job description, including but not limited to:

  • Provide nursing care and rehabilitation therapy for animals
  • Handle, restrain and care for animals undergoing treatment and surgery
  • Produce radiographs, collect and analyze samples and perform other laboratory tests to assist in diagnosis of animal health problems
  • Assist veterinarian with animals before, during and following surgery by preparing surgical equipment, administering and monitoring anesthetics and cleaning up after surgery
  • Prepare and administer medications and vaccines under direction of a veterinarian
  • Administer treatments as prescribed by a veterinarian
  • Provide wound and bandage care
  • Conduct specialized procedures as assigned by the veterinarian
  • Educate and advise clients on animal health care including nutrition and home care
  • Perform routine animal dental procedures and assist veterinarians with animal dentistry
  • May perform a variety of office management and clerical duties.
